Loss & Lobsters
This has been a rough month on the farm. Our old kitty, Eddie, disappeared a few weeks ago, and yesterday the neighbor's dog ate our mama chicken, Takaye. She was a good mom right up to the end...her babies were able to hide while she distracted the dog. Now we have five orphaned chicks for me to raise! Here's a photo of Takaye with her babies when they were a few days old:
On a happier note, on Sunday I got to eat lobsters for the second time at Grammie and Grampie's house! We had clams too...I ate two big ones all by myself. My favorite part of the lobsters was sucking the meat out of the little legs. I liked the lobsters much better after they were cooked...they were kind of scary when they could crawl on the floor towards me.

Off to the Races!
Dozer was a little nervous about all of the excitement, but he ran better than we thought he would. Out of the 120 entries, he was the biggest horse! In the Novice division, he won 2nd in the Idaho 8, 5th in the Barrels and Stake races, and was disqualified in the Tomahawk and Key. In the Tomahawk race, he wouldn't go near the barrel because he was scared of the tomahawk. In the Key race, he was running so fast that he missed the poles!
It was a long day for everybody, but we had fun - can't wait until the next show in June!

Takaye's First Chick!
Last summer we hatched a single bantam (mini) chicken in our incubator on the kitchen counter and I named her Takaye. A few weeks ago, Takaye started sitting on a clutch of her eggs. Since we don't have a rooster here, her own eggs would never hatch. Mom bought some fertile ones so that Takaye could be a surrogate mother and the first one hatched this morning! It came out of the little green egg.
She has eight more eggs to go...I wonder what the other chicks will look like!?! The surrogate eggs were from many different chickens of assorted breeds...

Happy Birthday To Me...

I'm TWO YEARS old now!! Well, actually I've been two for almost a month now, but Mom hasn't had time to help me update the blog in awhile. So...here are some photos of my birthday finally! I had a pony-themed party, complete with a pretty pony dress (that Grammie made), pony pinata filled with plastic ponies (and chocolate), a pony cake (that Mom made), pony rides (compliments of Prince), pony balloons, pony lights and pony gift bags. I loved my party and was a very efficient present-opener. I got lots of neat stuff - even my very own kitchen. My cake said "Happy Doo Doo" instead of "Happy Birthday" since that's how I say it...Mom thinks that it's a shortened version of saying "Happy Birthday To You" that I made up after reading Little Gorilla a zillion times.
